Little Athletes (3’s)
In a more structured environment children are encouraged to participate on their own as they gain a newly found independence. Little Athletes partake in skill-based activities that require more concentration and focus. Children are also exposed to increasingly challenging sport cues, fundamental movements and stretches.
Locomotive Skills (Agility, Flexibility, Stamina and Speed): Learning the fundamentals of how to implement running, dodging, hopping, skipping and tumbling into fun-play, game scenarios and sport activities.
Stability Skills (Balance, Rotation and Landing): Balancing, climbing and hanging (static and dynamic) on gym props, rotation of body front / back roll with some assistance but mostly on their own. Attempting to land on feet after different types of rotation.
Manipulative Skills (Eye hand coordination, Implementation of Equipment and Strength): Little Athletes get familiar with different types of sports equipment and how to implement them with some control. Learning with assistance and gradually on their own how to strike with feet and hands towards a target.
Social Skills: An emphasis on cooperation, group activities and patiently taking turns. A sense of confidence as they interact with coaches and peers while caregiver involvement gradually is decreased. There is also a focus on school readiness.
Emotional Skills: Through positive reinforcement and understanding children gain self-assurance in their abilities and skills. Children are also encouraged to self-express and develop their unique self-autonomy.
Cognitive Skills: Ability to answer questions asked by coaches and quickly understand instructions. Little Athletes are encouraged to develop imagination and creativity and explore that through physical movement.
